Delivery and the delivery area

Three ways to describe an area#

All three end up at the same thing for the guest: a fee, a minimum order value and the answer to whether you deliver to them at all.

• Rings: circles around your own address, measured as the crow flies. The quickest way, done in two minutes.
• Drawn zones: you click the corners onto the map yourself. For the cases where a circle takes in half of the wrong neighbouring town.
• Driving-distance zones: the same kilometres as the rings, but measured along the road instead of as the crow flies. “5 km” then stops being a circle and becomes the area you really reach after 5 km of driving. More accurate wherever a river, a railway line or a one-way street lies between two addresses that look close together on the map.

Fee and minimum order value#

Both can be set separately per zone, for instance up to 3 km no fee from 15 euro, up to 6 km 2,50 euro from 25 euro.

When the guest enters their address, the page assigns it to a zone and shows the fee and the minimum order value before they order. If the address lies outside, it says so instead of taking an order nobody is going to drive.

If an address falls into two zones, the smaller one wins. That is the case you easily miss while drawing, and it is the reading that favours the guest.

Localities#

On top of that you can name localities you do deliver to, or expressly do not. That helps wherever a zone cuts a neighbouring town in half: instead of trusting the boundary, you say “district X yes, district Y no”.

The map shows the named towns as dots, so you can see which one is inside and which one is outside.

The map#

The map in the dashboard is not a picture, it is the tool. Rings have handles you drag the radius by; drawn zones come from clicking the corners, and a click on the first point closes the shape.

The location itself cannot be moved by dragging. It comes from the address field, and one accidental click should not relocate your entire delivery area.
